Gus Hansen experienced a marvelous year on the World Poker Tour where he was the only gambler to make it to the last poker table in three of the events. Gus Hansen has appeared on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he bought into the game for $400, 000. You may remember one of the biggest pots in high stakes poker recorded history against Daniel Negreanu. Hansen won a huge pot with quads against Negreanu’s full house. Hansen has made many televised poker appearances and is deemed to be one of the best bettors in the world. While participating in internet poker, another side of Hansen has been seen. He frequently plays in the 200/400 No Limit max buy in of Forty Thousand dollars. Hansen frequently buys in for the min of Sixteen Thousand dollars and plays very poorly. He sits there waiting for a good hand and then goes all-in. I know Gus is an outstanding poker player but certainly not even close to the regular players at 200/400no limit. Unless Gus is penniless, he has absolutely no reason to play at the game with the min buy-in.
Playing for the min takes almost all of the skill out of deep stack poker. Hansen is assumed to be 1 of the best poker players in the world but he can’t buy in for the total dollar value. I think television can alter our perception of the real world sometimes. The greatest players in the world could be guys you have won’t have heard of. Gus can be seen participating in net poker on Full Tilt. He commonly participates in big stakes omaha high and hold’em. Gus Hansen has proven himself as a competition player. Can he back up his skills in cash rounds?
