Gus Hansen experienced a marvelous year on the WPT where he was the only one to achieve last game in 3 of the events. Gus Hansen has appeared on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he bought into the game for $400, 000. You may remember one of the largest pots in big stakes poker history competing against Daniel Negreanu. Gus secured a large pot with 4 of a kind against Daniel’s full house. Hansen has earned many tv poker appearances and is deemed to be one of the strongest enthusiasts around the world. While betting on web poker, a different side of Hansen has emerged. Gus often competes in the 200/400 NL maximum buy-in of $40, 000. Gus more often than not buys-in for the min of Sixteen Thousand dollars and plays very poorly. He waits patiently for a good hand and then goes all-in. I know Hansen is a great poker player but not even close to the familiar players at 200/400no limit. Unless Gus is flat broke, he has no reason to settle at the table with the min buy-in.
Buying in for the min takes almost all of the ability out of deep stack poker. Gus is presumed to be one of the greatest players anywhere in the world but he can’t buy-in for the full amt.. I believe tv can skew our perception of the real world sometimes. The best poker players anywhere in the world may be players you have never heard about. Gus can be found participating in internet poker on Full Tilt. He commonly plays in high stakes omaha/8 and Holdem. Gus has shown himself as a competition player. Can he use his abilities in money games?
