Phil Ivey has been branded as the best poker player on the planet by many of the top-ranked pros. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and moved to Jersey before his first birthday. His grandpa showed him to penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was addicted to poker and wished to learn everything he could about the game. Phil would tell his parents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He didn’t let the detrimental comments from other people destroy his dream of being one of the greatest poker players in the world.

He started playing seriously after getting a false ID with the name of Jerome. He honed his abilities at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The beginning few years for him were a teaching experience and winning was not a normal outcome at the time. He became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he achieved two final tables and came away with his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the final table he destroyed a number of the well known professionals which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil decided to take his game to the next level and moved out west to Las Vegas. Phil continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Ivey credits his achievements to hard work and a continuing love for poker. He states that he is picking up skills every day and is incredibly abashed about his success. Phil admits to making errors in each game of poker and always aspires to improve.

Although Ivey has won some large tournaments, he favors winning cash games on a regular basis.
