Poker has become world celebrated as of late, with televised tournaments and celebrity poker game events. Its popularity, though, stretches back in reality a bit farther than its TV ratings. Over the years several variants on the first poker game have been created, including a few games that are not in fact poker anymore. Caribbean stud poker is one of these games. Regardless of the name, Caribbean stud poker is more closely affiliated with 21 than traditional poker, in that the players bet against the dealer rather than the other players. The winning hands, are the long-standing poker hands. There is no conniving or other kinds of concealment. In Caribbean stud poker, you are required to ante up before the dealer saying "No further bets." At that point, both you and the casino and of course every one of the other players receive 5 cards. After you have observed your hand and the casino’s first card, you must either make a call wager or surrender. The call bet’s value is equal to your original bet, indicating that the stakes will have doubled. Abandoning means that your bet goes immediately to the casino. After the wager comes the showdown. If the bank doesn’t have ace/king or better, your bet is returned, plus a sum on par with the ante. If the bank does have ace/king or greater, you win if your hand defeats the casino’s hand. The dealer pony’s up cash even with your wager and controlled odds on your call wager. These odds are:

  • Equal for a pair or high card
  • 2-1 for two pairs
  • three to one for 3 of a kind
  • 4-1 for a straight
  • five to one for a flush
  • seven to one for a full house
  • twenty to one for a 4 of a kind
  • 50-1 for a straight flush
  • 100-1 for a royal flush
