Casino chips have been manufactured from a varied selection of materials in an almost endless assortment of styles since the creation of gambling and the requirement to track winnings. The most common materials used at present in the creation of modern poker chips are plastic, clay composite, and acrylic composite. Clay chips, the original of the bunch, have been made in America since the late 1800s.

Back in the 19th century, poker players seemed to use any tiny valuable item imaginable. Early poker enthusiasts sometimes employed rough gold pieces along with chips – mainly manufactured of wood and clay. By the 1900s, poker chip designs began to play a bigger prominence, and the smooth edges of older chips gave way to chips with ridges to hold them neatly piled up with each other.

There is little or no doubt that poker has increased steadily in popularity ever since its origin in the 19th century. With the huge advancement of web gambling and specialty TV shows, public appeal in poker has feed the fire a lot faster than ever before. Many individuals are first introduced to poker by television showslike "Celebrity Poker" or the Travel Channel’s "World Poker Tour," and most will gamble on their 1st hands on the net. Regardless of internet poker’s growth, not much replaces the feeling of mixing weighty clay poker chips in your hand, throwing chips into the center of a casino table, or creating high pilesstacks of chips after showing a victorious hand.
