Phil Ivey has been branded as the best poker contender on the globe by quite a few of the top professionals. He was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to New Jersey before his first birthday. His grandfather taught him penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was hooked on poker and wanted to discover everything he possibly could about the game. Phil would tell his elders that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He didn’t allow the detrimental comments from others kill his dream of becoming one of the strongest poker players in the world.

He began playing intently after acquiring a false ID by the name of Jerome. He honed his skills at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The first few years for Phil were a learning experience and coming away with a win was not a common thing at the time. He became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he achieved 2 final tables and came away with his first WSOP bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the closing table he defeated a number of the well known professionals including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil decided to take his game to the next level and headed out west to Vegas. Phil continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Ivey credits his achievements to dedication and an immeasurable love for the game of poker. He states that he’s learning every single day and is quite humble about his achievements. Phil admits to making errors every single session of poker and constantly aspires to get better.

Although Ivey has come first in some big tournaments, he prefers winning money games on a normal basis.
