Gus Hansen had an amazing year on the WPT where he was the only one to make it to the closing poker table in three of the tournaments. Gus Hansen has been seen on High Stakes Poker on The Game Show Network where he bought into the game for $400, 000. You may recall one of the largest pots in high stakes poker recorded history competing against Daniel Negreanu. Gus raked in a huge pot with 4 of a kind against Daniel’s full house. Gus has earned many tv poker appearances and is deemed to be one of the strongest players around the world. While competing in net poker, another side of Hansen has emerged. He regularly plays in the 200/400 No Limit maximum buy-in of $40, 000. Gus generally buys-in for the minimum of $16, 000 and plays very poorly. He waits patiently for a decent hand and then pushes all-in. I believe Hansen is a great poker player but certainly not even close to the familiar players at 200/400NL. Unless Gus is flat broke, he has no reason to play at the table with the minimum buy in.

Playing for the min takes almost all of the expertise out of big stack poker. Gus is supposed to be one of the best players anywhere in the world but he cannot buy-in for the full amt.. I think tv can skew our view of the real world at times. The greatest players in the world might just be guys you have will not have heard of before. Gus can be found betting on internet poker on Full Tilt. He normally competes in high stakes omaha eight-or-better and hold’em. Gus Hansen has shown himself as a competition player. Can he back up his skills in cash games?
