Howard Lederer was born into in a family of five in which he loved playing various card games at a young age. He discovered himself getting very competitive in these particular card games as he was competing against his father. After graduating from Sr. High school, Howard made a decision to place higher education on hold for a little bit and headed to New York City to play some serious chess. The Mayfair was a bridge and backgammon association where the the most favorable gamblers would frequently challenge each other. Howard had access into a few of the greatest players in chess. With their help, he would hone his logical thinking abilities. Howard applied these strategy ideas to the game of No-Limit Texas Holdem.

He also assisted his sister Annie Duke learn the game of poker. She was an excellent student of poker as she constantly asked questions about how to make the proper choice. Howard Lederer told Annie to head out to Las Vegas and compete in the World Series of Poker competition. Annie Duke is one of the strongest women players the poker world ever. He relocated to Las Vegas in Nineteen Ninety Three and played money games for the subsequent 10 years. When the WPT grew in popularity, Howard made the decision to participate in more tournaments.
