Phil Ivey has been labeled as the number one poker contender on the planet by quite a few of the top professionals. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and moved to New Jersey before his first birthday. His grandpa introduced him to one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was hooked on poker and wanted to pickup whatever he possibly could about poker. He routinely told his parents that he was planning on being a professional poker player. Phil didn’t allow the negative comments from others annihilate his dream of becoming one of the best poker players on the planet.

Phil started competing intently after getting a false ID with the name of Jerome. He practiced his skills at the casinos of Atlantic City. The initial number of years for him were a teaching experience and winning was not a regular outcome at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 WSOP when he achieved two final tables and won his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the last table he destroyed quite a few of the better known pros which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil decided to take his skills to the next level and headed out west to Vegas. He continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Phil credits his success to dedication and an undying passion for the game of poker. He states that he is learning every day and is very humble about his accomplishments. Phil admits to making mistakes in each session of poker and always strives to improve.

Despite the fact that Phil has won some big-time tournaments, he prefers destroying money games on a regular basis.
