Poker has become world famous recently, with televised competitions and celebrity poker game events. The games popularity, though, arcs back in reality a bit farther than its television scores. Over the years numerous variants on the original poker game have been created, including a few games that are not really poker anymore. Caribbean stud poker is 1 of these games. Regardless of the name, Caribbean stud poker is more closely affiliated with blackjack than old guard poker, in that the players wager against the casino instead of each other. The succeeding hands, are the traditional poker hands. There is little bluffing or different kinds of deception. In Caribbean stud poker, you are required to ante up just before the croupier declares "No more bets." At that point, both you and the bank and of course every one of the other gamblers attain five cards each. After you have seen your hand and the casino’s initial card, you have to either make a call bet or bow out. The call wager’s amount is equal to your original bet, meaning that the stakes will have increased two fold. Bowing out means that your ante goes instantaneously to the bank. After the wager is the showdown. If the house doesn’t have ace/king or better, your bet is given back, including a sum equal to the ante. If the dealer does have ace/king or better, you succeed if your hand defeats the bank’s hand. The casino pony’s up money equal to your bet and set expectations on your call wager. These odds are:
- Equal for a pair or high card
- 2-1 for two pairs
- 3-1 for 3 of a kind
- four to one for a straight
- 5-1 for a flush
- seven to one for a full house
- twenty to one for a four of a kind
- 50-1 for a straight flush
- one hundred to one for a royal flush
